-Proven combat rifle
-After 7-9k rounds and it's time for a new barrel you can just order one and install it yourself with a vise and barrel wrench
-If you want to switch calibers within your "bolt face category" you can just order a barrel and install it yourself as above

the A.I would be an a.e rifle. the a.w is like 6 to 7 months out on shipping. the Nighthawk is around 5 weeks. the a.e is in stock and ready to ship. nighthawk has surgeon action and runs about 4900.00 with options. the A.I is about 3800.00 with options. lots of input needed. thanks

A.I is also 3 months out on a built in bracket that mounts on the stock near bi-pod for the night vision. thats kinda a bummer to have everything in hand but that!!! i have seen them in pictures on other A.I rifles but wonder why they are unavailable?

I will also vote AI. If you like the ergos of the AI chassis and can deal with the weight it is one hell of a rifle. If you decide it is not for you then I would look at some of the more established rifle smiths like APA, Surgeon, GAP or KMW to name a few. After talking with Jered of APA at SHOT this year, and the experience I've had with one of his rifles, he would be my choice for a custom stick with Surgeon a close second.

Nighthawk puts out some excellent weapons. I own 7 of their 1911s and have fired one of their rifles. They are G2G and their warranty is fantastic - it includes shipping both ways -'if' you ever need it.
That said, I am considering AI (waiting on Mile High's quote), DTA, GAP, or a Surgeon.

I would recommend some of the established gun builders here on The Hide before I went with Nighthawk. Some of the best in the business are members here.
It's hard to compare a tactical rifle that is listed as "new" on their website to any AI. AI's IMO win this hands down.

I would just like to say that I love my AI-AW I just got it yesterday and it is a great gun. Stacey is a good guy he will talk to you about AI rifles and answer all of your questions I only have good things to say because I have only had good exp with Stacey and AI.

You say you want to do it right the 1st time , and then say it won't be a AW due to 6 mths , thats crap .
I had not wait 18 mths ( and worth it ) for mine, because they cocked my order UP , so 6 mths is nothing .
get the AW end of story& while you are at it get it with a folding stock & order a S&B PMII 4-16x50 , mil/mil , P4F reticle and call it done .

So much so that I am having APA build mine on a Surgeon 591 in 260 Rem. The best way of explaining it is if you like thumbhole stocks that feel 'solid', yet can overlook some weight, you'll like it. If you can you really should see one in person just to be sure. Nothing like the real thing. Someone on the Hide here should live close enough to you where you could pay a visit to try one out (i.e. handle only

I'd strongly suggest getting behind an AI stock and whatever options Nighthawk is offering. I'm not knocking AI rifles in any way, shape or form but they are not comfortable for me. If Nighthawk is producing rifles with McMillan or Manners stocks you might want to explore what stock fits you best and consider that as an important factor in your decision.
If AI stocks are comfortable for you, by all means buy an AI rifle.
If they are not, as already suggested, I would recommend one of the talented builders here on the Hide. Not knocking Nighthawk either but there are several here who can build just as good a rifle if not better.

I have a better one yet, get a Badger M2008 action and put it in a Manners or McMillan stock. The Badger action is just about if not better than an AI action and you can choose a stock that will fit you perfectly.

I know that Nighthawk makes some of the finest 1911's on the market. I've never got to shoot one of thier rifles though. I would go with the Nighthawk if it was me, with the Surgeon action.

Side by side they are about identical, I like that you can swap out the rails for different cants on the badger. I like that you don't have to run an AICS, I don't like the way they fit me. I also like that the bolt isn't cast on the badger, afaik the ai bolts are cast, at least they used to be. Pretty much all of these differences are minimal but the biggest deal is the price, you can build a badger based rifle for under $3500

They had 2 AW rifles in the setup that I got and mine arrived monday so you can always call or email them and check.

Just a clarification on the Nighthawk Customs Rifle. The rifles at SHOT used an action made by Stiller for Nighthawk.
I have seen Surgeon, as well as Pierce actions in Nighthawk rifles.

I have seen the guts of nighthawks rifles. Their work is top notch. Very nice threads and chambers. All of the machining is perfect. For me, the decision would be made by which rifle fits or feels best to you. Alot of guys like the AI stock, some guys cant get a feel for it. My opinion isnt worth a whole lot and im not trying to sway you either way, just puttin in my .02

AI rifles are GTG but I just can't get the stock to work with me. I would go Nighthawk for that reason.
