Just like the title says, all these people getting AI stocks for their 700's, is there any real point to it other than the eye candy aspect? Would I get tighter groups with an AI stock on my 700 then using a different aftermarket stock.

its a chassis which does not require bedding, it doesn't require a seperate bottom metal, and all you have to do is bolt in your barreled action and go... it is not just eye candy... next question.

So the reason its so popular is because its easy to setup and no need for a gunsmith.

Sorry for the newb questions... but my mate is thinking of buying one and doesnt want to spend all those $$$ on an AI unless theres a very good reason for it.

Not mentioned yet is that it is adjustable. If the stock fits properly it helps with consistency. Better consistency is a big step towards better accuracy.

My AICS 2.0 doesn't shoot any better than the H-S Precision stock it replaced. It does feed better, and is more pleasurable for me to shoot (better ergonomics).

It's not necessarily that it makes the rifle more accurate, but that it allows you to shoot better if the ergonomics fit you better, plus added functionality- magazines, adjustability, stiffer, etc.

I've got a Roedale with Viperskins on it. Similar kind of thing.

I bought it for 3 reasons.
about 60% was comfort and fit, i didn't like the original stock on my Tikka
about 10% was the accuracy/strength increase (which isn't much).
and admittedly, about 30% was the looks factor.

It's my gun, i live with it, i shoot it, clean it, so i like it to look good.

It's like a car. Yes, you buy it for practical and performance aspects, but there's a looks factor that some people care about. and some of us are drawn to cars that appeal to what we like the looks of.
The AI is like an Aston Martin Rapide, it's practical (5 seats, fullsize boot), great performance, and looks like sex with an internal combustion engine...
