Accuracy of CZ 457 Varmint 22LR non MTR

I recently purchased the 457 Varmint in22lr non MTR. Have only shot it in back of my house at 25yds. Haven't been to the range yet for 50yd shooting. Just from the research online, It seems a lot of folks are not getting very good accuracy. Some say no matter what ammo they have tried. The last CZ I owned was a 452 Varmint in 22LR years back. The 452 was very accurate even with the Federal 510 rounds. I'm just trying to see if a lot of folks on this forum have had poor accuracy out of this particular model. Also, if anyone found solutions to accuracy problems other than barrel replacement. I plan to install a yo dave trigger. Thanks for all input! (y) I plan to experiment with action screw torque.

Any barrel mass produced or custom can range from stellar to mediocre. Both my 457 builds started with varmint barrels and either would shoot half moa or better at 50yds, ammo dependent of course. Spend some time seasoning the barrel and pick up a few mixed lots of quality ammo, see for yourself exactly what it's capable of.

I have a few 457 varmints that I've done lot testing and all that with.
- Eley tenex, Lapua LR, X Act, Center X, Midas+, R50, Special Match

best mine shoots is about .6-.65 Moa at 50 yards, with 10 round groups
- this is with 1 lot of 5 that I have of R50

for PRS/NRL22 just shoot it until you can afford a better rifle,
definitely buy the best ammo you can afford, keep an eye on your action screws.
- mine would come loose every time I shot it for the first 5 or so matches

I had good overall accuracy with my varmint, but the cold bore shift made me crazy, so I replaced the barrel.

If you're thinking about upgrading your 457, I would caution you to consider things before going down that rabbit hole. I did a lot of work to mine and put a good amount of time and money into it. Make no mistake, its a hammer; but in hindsight, time and money would have been better spent if I just ordered a barreled action from Desert Precision or some such place.

Where you are now, you could just sell your rifle right and take the relatively small loss now, rather than put a bunch of time and money into it HOPING to get the performance you want.

As for screw torque ... 20-25 in-lbs seems to be the consensus torque range.

My 457 runs really well with Eley Team flat nose. I know there are quite a few others that have had luck with that ammo as well. Not an MTR, just a varmint model with Manners

Unless you're shooting for ultimate accuracy, you can get away with less expensive ammo that will put a smile on your face. In terms of bang for the buck, SK offerings have given me very good results. Sk Standard+ and semi auto have served me well. Others report good results with pistol match.

The Standard plus is more consistent but appreciably more expensive than semi auto, but Ive had lots of semi auto that really shined.
