anyone use the newest accushot quick adjusment monopod for the magpul prs stock? is it worth the hundred bucks or should I just stick with a sand bag? I like the idea of not having to tote a sand bag whenever I shoot. thanks for any input.

Personally, I like the Accushot for it's great stability and ease of portability. However, you lose the ability to make minute adjustments by squeezing a rear bag. When engaging multiple targets, it's also faster to use a bag.

i really like having it on my prs stock. the minor adjustments may not be as fast as a bag, but the precision is unmatched. i really like the clockwise/counter-clockwise twist adjustment for precise elevation adjustments.

honestly, your best bet is to keep an eye out in the post exchange; if you see one that doesn't say spf already (believe me, they go faaaaast, literally within minutes of being posted), jump on it. i bought mine on here for $75.

I have two of them (different sizes) and I feel the price is justified, however, it really has to do with personal preference. Some find the bag to be a better option. If you decide the monopod isn't for you, there won't be any problem getting rid of it in the classifieds; just be sure to have 100 posts before trying to sell it.

Re: Accushot monopod on PRS stock?

I'v got 2 rifles set up with PRS/Accushot monopods. For me it works really well.

I had used the monopods before on sling stud stocks and loved them, so it became a selling point for the PRS.

Re: Accushot monopod on PRS stock?

I've found that for me it is worth it, but not quite as stable or precise as a bag. I get a very small amount of wiggle that I don't get with a bag. To be more specific, I usually shoot ~3/4MOA with a bag, but with the Accushot, it's more like 1.25MOA, so not a huge difference for my purposes. I could probably be more precise with it if I spent more time locking it down.

Its point of contact with a hard surface is so small that it is easier to get a bit of movement whereas a bag has a lot more surface area to keep things more stable. If you grip it with your hand, you can use your hand to widen the point of contact, but, there is still just a bit more movement for me.

In general, I don't find that the bag is any quicker to set up or fine tune. With the Accushot, in most situations, it is easier to hold a position over a long period of time.

I like that it is part of the stock. I don't have to carry around a bag, or worry about leaving it behind.

Re: Accushot monopod on PRS stock?

What size model do most of you use on your AR's?

I have a Rock River Arms Predator Pursuit with a Magpul PRS stock and wondered what would be a good fit. I shoot 100 & 200 yard ranges now and take occasionally to longer distances out in the midwest....Thanks, JaxOps

I use mine and a small wedge. I've used both together in lieu of a larger wedge on occasions with great results.

That's true - you can use it like a rear vertical grip and move pretty quickly. That's an option that doesn't come with a bag.

The above link is to a pretty good discussion thread the on pros/cons of each. I've had mine on my PRS for just about a year and couldn't imagine shooting the rifle without it. I have the BT13-QK and use a 9-13" bipod. I think most guys using a 6-9" are running the slightly shorter BT12-QK. Worth the money, and if you don't like it re-sale would not be a problem around here.

Re: Accushot monopod on PRS stock?

I have the Accushot on a PRS, on two AR10 platform guns. I like it, but as it has been said here, the Accushot alone is not quite as accurate as a bag. I have been using a combo of Accushot and TAB bag. A little bit of both worlds. That said, you can shoot MOA pretty handily with just the Accushot. I'm not much of a shooter, but with good equipment and ammo, one can stay in black.
