At least a couple of the barrel makers offer the services of chambering the barrel and truing the action. Anyone use their services and have any comments? I don't recall seeing much mention of this in any custom builds and I was thinking about giving one of them a try. PM me if you want.

I've had Krieger do mine in the past. That way if it doesn't shoot; one less person to blame!

Rich S.

I used Hart for those services in the past. Excellent work all around. Current price is $650. for re-barreling your action, with a Hart barrel, chamber, lap the lugs, square the action, crown, and contour. Wait time is listed as 18-22 weeks.

Ditto on Krieger. I have a 6.5 x 55 and a .308 they have done and I am very pleased.

A well-respected 'smith here on the Hide recommended them to me when he stopped taking custom work. His words were "they will do a good job of chambering your rifle, but they will not do a complete build." I assume he meant they will not do bolt mods, inletting for DBM, etc.

I believe the turnaround was about the same as what Bob said Hart's was.

As a note, years ago I had Shilen rebarrel and pillar bed a Remington in a HS Precision stock. It was in .22 PPC and shot like a charm.

I've had good results with Shilen and Pac-Nor. Best to provide your own reamer so you know what to expect as far as the chamber goes - especially if you are into detachable magazine-length cartidges.
