I think you can resurface the bolt face, but as far as actual truing, I don't think it can be done for an AR. Not 100% sure though.

Making sure the upper receiver's face and threads are true and that the barrel nut's threads and the barrel extension's mating suface is square to the trued up face never hurts, but is something I've never done. Tighten up and go.

One of these days I'll get the receiver face truing doodad from brownell's. That's about all that's needed unless you have problems.....

You are welcome to borrow mine.

No, I'm not sure how much good it does, I've only used it on one rifle so far and I didn't test it before hand. If I tear down a couple other rifles and do them I'll have before and after data, but even then there is so much going on with an AR that just tearing one apart and rebuilding it can make a slight change.
