There are for a debris relief, lightening overall weight, and looks. They are used by different people for one of the above reasons, and all of the uses can be disputed.

Yes. Smart man, that DebosDave.
I have had many custom rifles built with most of the bells and whistles(McMillan stocks, Badger bottom metal, etc.) and never felt the need for the flutes. My brother has them on his primary stick and loves them. I am neither put off or excited by them.

Yup! and it also makes your rifle shoot tighter groups....in the .2's I think.

If clockwise in the northern hemisphere and counter in the southern they counteract Coriolis effect.

If your bolt is fluted, like mine, you do not have to take in to account the Coriolis effect, on shots beyond 2000 yards, that claim is substantiated on countersniperscopes.com.

yes you can have a Savage bolt fluted
