Adams Arms Piston Conversion

Re: Adams Arms Piston Conversion

I installed one for a customer a few months ago. The installation was pretty straight forward, the only issue being getting the spacer for the op rod in straight. It went in straight for me but the potential is there to muck it up if you're not careful. They include an installation DVD which is pretty well thought out and helpful.

Once installed I took it out and ran a few hundred rounds through it including one full auto mag dump. It ran like a sewing machine.

Seemed like a pretty well thought out kit from my limited time with it. I can't speak to the durability of the parts but all seemed well when I shipped it back to the owner.

Re: Adams Arms Piston Conversion

I had a spare LWRC upper and lower lying around earlier this year and thought I would try and build a gas piston gun. See what all the hubbub is about.

I bought an Adams kit off GB. Also a bunch of Magpul furniture, a Match trigger, Colt bolt/carrier and a few other goodies. All gunbroker buys.

Once I had the parts, this is what emerged from a Saturday of tinkering:

I had to modify the MagPul Forend to get the piston to work (not the cutouts on top). And the piston rod I received in my kit had a tiny bend in it. I straightened it easily using an indicator and a collet in the lathe and some gentle bending.

But the thing never jams. Ever. I ran mixed mags of 'junk' ammo through it and it just keeps going pop pop pop. It's accurate and a fun shooter. FYI, optic is a C-More w. illum donut reticle.

The Adams kit worked great. The video was well done and helpful, though some written instructions might have helped. After installing and testing it, I was so impressed, I sent a nice note to Adams. By all means, give it a try.

Cheers,

Sirhr.

Sirhr,

THanks for the reply. Your build looks great! Nice to know that some things that are being sold actually work. Thanks again.
