I’m putting together an older Savage long action.243 with a wooden stock I repainted. Now it is pretty slick, what would be the best non-slip I can add . Note this is a low budget trainer.

MarineTex or Devcon and a popsicle stick will work. You spread the epoxy on thin and then hit with the popsicle stick to raise the epoxy. It'll be spikey but it can be knocked down with a wetted finger.

Alternatively, you can use skateboard tape cut to fit. I've found it's not as thick as no slip tread tape, making it better for stocks IMO. Talon Grips also has a rubberized material that comes in cut to shape sheets thats easier on the hands.

I used some gorilla glue 2 part epoxy to add texture to mine. I used the transparent variant to sort of bed a flat surface for an arca rail, and the black stuff from a tube on the grip area. The black stuff finished up more rubbery, a better texture imo. Looks like the black epoxy pic is a little blurry, but you should get the idea. The clear stuff is smoother, harder. I scuffed you the plastic stock to get it some teeth to adhere to. Has worked out well.

I have used the spray grit epoxy for bath tubs and such out of a rattle can on a few stocks I painted. Works great. A little spray is all they needed. I do it before I spray the color. Just tape off what you don't want textured and have at it.

If you want a light texture another easy product is “stone” color paints or speckled paints. Spray some on and then clear coat over the top and it will give a nice mild texture.
