Adjusting .308 loads for 7.62 brass

I need to load up 200 rounds for a comp, but to get that number with the brass I have on hand requires using some 7.62. My developed load was using the 308 brass. If I start low with the 7.62 brass and work up to the same velocity as the 308 will the loads be interchangeable? Or is it unreasonable to expect the performance/POI of the 308 to be matched by the 7.62?

I know the obvious answer is just to buy more 308 brass, but if I can make the 7.62 work it seems silly not to use it.

Loads for 308 and 7.62 should be the same. FGMM ballistics are identical between the two nomenclatures.

If you're loading for a comp I think it would be silly to even try. If you build up a load for it you can closely match the other though. There is no way they'll shoot the same with the same load. But it shouldn't be too much different in velocity for you to bump the load. The rest will be up to case capacity, neck tension, etc. Personally I'd suggest what you already know you have to do. What'd you call it again? Oh yeah, a "competition".

wouldn't even try it in a comp. i can always find a better way to waste 300$ in an afternoon. I won't even fire a Lapua 2x fired case in a string of once fired cases while in a competition. not a chance.

I'm actually just shooting the comp as a RO so it's pretty low risk. I'm not expecting to be competitive and there probably wont be a prize for the RO side comp. Otherwise, you guys are right about it not being worth the risk in a real comp.

My real question should have been will bullets at the same velocity perform the same from 2 different capacity cases?

I guess I'll just have to go out a try it.

Check the primer pockets on the 7.62 for a crimp.

Anytime you change a component load development needs to be redone, in this case(ha-ha) the difference in the internal capcity could raise pressure thru the roof which would be a major safety concern and/or could throw the bullets out of accuracy node.
