I sold my .308 bolt gun after I fell in love with 6.5 creedmoor. I intended on purchasing another bolt rifle to complement my Desert Tech in 6.5 but stumbled upon a post on another forum regarding a lightweight AR10 build that really had me thinking.

I had also considered just buying a 6.5 Grendel upper for my lightweight SPR AR15 but that would use different bullets, require new dies, powder, and yet another parity of ammo at a ballistic disadvantage to the Creedmoor for hunting and all around use.

That said, I'm looking for input on either factory built rifles OR components that have resulted in a lightweight, reliable, accurate AR10 in 6.5 Creedmoor.

GOALS:

Reliability
Budget: about $2500
Weight: 5.5-6.5 lbs
Accuracy: sub MOA
Barrel Length: 20" for use with suppressor and to maximize velocity

My research led me to 2A Xanthos, Christensen 20" Carbon Fiber Barrel, Smoke Composites Stock and Handguard OR 2A Handguard with Luth AR Skullaton Stock with V7 titanium components and a Geissele SSA-E Trigger...

Appreciate all your insights!

I built the exact same rifle using the 2A receiver set and handguard with all V7 components, plus a 260Rem Proof Research barrel. Good stuff if you're looking for a sub-6.5lb rifle. I will say -- if you want the lightest rifle possible, you're better off with a pencil barrel. IMO, the extra 0.5lb is worth it for something more accurate.

Awesome! Mind sending me a pm with your build specs? I definitely want a C.F. barrel unless someone can provide personal experience that it doesn't perform one of the build requirements...

Im sold on C.F. unless personal experience from someone disuades me....mind sending me a P.M. with your setup and weight along with anything to watch out for?

With a 20" inch Proof 6.5 Creedmore barrel installed in this rifle, it would weigh a little more than you specified, but there are probably some ways to lighten it up some . The lower receiver is the same size as an AR15 , but with a .308 size mag well.

I hadn't even considered POF - thanks for this info!

I wasn't either, until I seen an article about it in a gun mag at the grocery store. If I were to get one , I would change the buttstock out to something else, maybe a shelve type Magpul or BCM if I could get a good enough cheekweld with them. It would be nice if at some point they would offer this in 6.5 Creedmore with a barrel length of 17 or 18", to be used with a suppressor of your choice. It would be plenty good out to 800 yds or more, and after that, who cares. The only thing is when I think of POF, I don't necessarily think of them like I would Colt, BCM,LMT, DD,etc., but their weapons could very well be top tier. The main thing I would like to know about this AR15 sized .308 caliber weapon is, how is the long term durability of it, when some of the critical parts of it are AR15 sized parts. Also maybe at some point the SCAR 17 will be offered in 6.5 Creedmore 17 or 18 inch medium profile barrel.
