Wondering if it would be worth rebarreling. It is currently 22-250. Its an old SA action that has been fucked up as you can see with a shitty thumb hole stock. How robust are these old actions?

Re: Advice on a bastardized SA action.

They can be very robust. They are basically the US Government's 1903 version of the 1898 Mauser. Check the serial number to make sure it is not in the range of guns that had questionable heat treat. It has no collector value any more, so you may as well rebarrel it or do something with it. I bought a Remington M1903A3 for a build and ER Shaw did a great job turning it into a .280 Ackley Improved. New barrel, bolt handle, Winchester-style three position safety from a small shop (name eludes me now), Conetrol rings and mounts and Canjar trigger (looks like your has a Canjar as well). Black walnut stock is being done now. Looking forward to a beautiful rifle.

You have a marginal (?) rifle that begs to become a great rifle you will be proud to own.

Semper Fi,
