Hello all!
I want to start looking into building my own rifle and would like some expert opinions as to the best route I can take in length, best twist, etc. to look for and it to be with threads so that I can add suppressor/silencer or other accessories at a later time, as I can afford to add. Name brands and if it is better to get carbon or stainless steel barrels. I always prefer a higher grade of 304-308 stainless if I can get it for other things because of humidity and outside climate and storage conditions, but never had anything of that caliber except a 357 mag, which I love and had for many years now. Used it out on ocean and had no issues with. I only want to build one rifle but be able to change out the barrel of caliber choice if that is even possible to do... I do that now with my New England Handii II rifle. I like to stay in the smaller caliber as much as possible. I only know of this gun that will interchange from one barrel to another. Rifle or shotgun barrels will work, so what other gun will do this? Of course this is only and single shot but I want to do an AR or something like that. I don't want to have 15 complete guns. Just want to have one body but several barrels of different caliber if that is even possible... I don't know so that is why I'm asking the experts....
Thanks for your advise and knowledge in advance!

Take it to the new shooter subforum or better yet, read and don’t yet post You need o do a lot of research on your own before you even start asking questions. Don’t be lazy, it will not serve you well.

Well, barrel stainless will be 416. It's not the most rust resistant stainless, but it'll actually hold up to the heat and pressure.

You can swap uppers around on an AR, but you need to research that.

If I was you I'd start at one bolt gun in a smaller caliber. Learn and shoot and learn some more.

After you get some experience look into switch barrel rifles. Just know that a lot of times it's just as cheap to have 3-4 rifles as it is to have 5 barrels and bolts for 1. You need to change bolt face for different calibers depending, and there are only a few changeable bolt head actions out there.

Twist rates and barrel lengths along with suppressor size and threads will vary by cartridge. Most use a 300wm rated suppressor with 5/8-24 for everything .308 and smaller. You can get caliber specific, but most times it's not very different going smaller. I use a sig srd762 for my 300bo, 6.5 Creed, 25-06, .223's, etc. Only thing it isn't used on is rimfire.
