UPS just delivered my Aero Precision M4E1 complete upper 223 Wylde 18" rifle length fluted SS barrel. I have the matching lower which I installed a LaRue MBT 2S trigger and Battle Arms bad-ass 60 degree ambi safety. The Aero is very light and very responsive. My wife will also be shooting this AR15 and that is why I ordered the rifle length 18' barrel. It is softer shooting than the 16" carbine or mid length gas systems. The machining and design of the handguard and barrel are superb. It is so different from my 18" FN barrel Geissele Mk14 complete upper and lower from PSA. It has a 4X12X40 scope and Thorsden G2 butt stock and weighs 30 oz. more than the Aero.
It was important for me to have a light-weight AR15 that could be deployed in the event of social unrest here in CA. At over 80 years old I wanted a fire arm with more lethality and range than my PC9. The Aero will be wearing a 4 oz. RDO for now and I will be taking it to the indoor range tomorrow. If I can put 10rds into 6 inches at 25yards then I will feel protected. I might consider a very light laser/light combo and would like the thoughts of the cognoscenti on this addition. Thank you in advance.

Aero's M4E1 Enhanced upper is a great design that is significantly lower priced then the competitions versions.

I'm a big fan of these designs that incorporate an additional handguard interface for improved rigidity and ease of installation. Best thing short of monolithic uppers imo.

but JP is 2-3x the cost no?
At least. And not necessary for the OP’s intended purpose, which appears to be home defense, not competition or impressing friends at the range. The Aero is completely reliable, built well with more than acceptable fit and finish. I’ve owned and shot from Anderson to Spikes, DD and JP. That Aero will serve just fine.

Congratulations on your purchase.

There are several to choose from. Aimpoint, Trijicon, Acog, even Sig, etc, etc. Some can be crazy expensive, others more affordable. Might be a great question for the Observation and Sighting Devices forum. Listing your general criteria to include price point will help focus the several responses you may get. I would first check the same forum for a thread that may already exist. I’m sure there are many 👍👍

Just got back from the indoor range today. After sighting-in with both RDO's, I was easily able to shoot 10 shots, off-hand, into a 6 inch shoot-n-see target at 25yards. I think my eyes like the Green dot better than the red. The Aero Precision complete upper and lower is very light and easy to shoot. The recoil is negligible with 55gr ammo. I shot 32rds with my 80 year old shoulders and no aches or pains. I am happy with my new light-weight CA compliant AR15.

After shooting both guns and reviewing the attached targets, I shoot the Aero AR15 better than the PC9. Maybe it is the LaRue MBT 2-s trigger. Maybe it is the light weight. The CA compliant pistol grip is more difficult to grasp however it will be my new personal protection of choice. I just have to remember to "turn on the light". I reload 9mm but have to buy 223/556 so that is why I only shot 10rds of 223 Remington.
