AI .223 conversion

while they'd probably sell a bunch to us, i don't think MIL/LE care much about 223 in a bolt gun

of course we never expected an aftermarket trigger, but that isn't exactly made by them so kinda different

I know you need another project. If you can make a flawless Desert Tech 223 conversion, a AI should be easy!

If memory serves, years ago Tom Irwin said in response to a similar thread, that the current AI design would not properly feed .223, and they did not see the market to develop a tiny AI just for .223. So I would not count on this any time soon.

someone has it done enough that it was ran thru an entire club match in an AIAX

just a bolt head and mag swap

final hang up was sometimes the case head would slip off the bolt face as the bullet traveled up the feed ramp...a quick double pump of the bolt would clear it up, but they werent satisfied with that...they are lookin at ways to get more case rim presentation without binding something else

it ran well 90% of the time, but hopefully they can get those 10% hangups worked out

All I know is that I love the little CZ 527 mini-Mauser actions, and that having a scaled-down mini-AI in .223 would be a hoot! Cost a fortune, sure, but I’d have one eventually, along with a slew of barrels to swap out for different calibers! A man can dream (DON’T SAY IT, FRANK!)... ?
