I shot my AI AT with the new 6.5x47 barrel today for the 1st time and had major ejection issues. About 50-60% out of 110 rounds failed to eject and even when the cases were ejected it was just sort of weak. The same case would eject once and then not eject next 2 times. I shot the 6.5x47 barrel after shooting about 50 rounds of 308 on the factory barrel and none of the 308 cases failed to eject. 308 cases were 1x fired lapuas and 6.5x47 were virgin lapuas. Groupwise random loads with Varget/H4350 and 123 130 140 ELD and 123/139 Lapuas were easely under 3/4 moa without trying very hard with single digit SDs so no complains there.
What's weird is that when i shot the 308 virgin brass the 1st time i had bunch of failure to extracts(not eject) but none with the 1x fired 308 brass.

Has anyone seen this happen before with 6.5x47 giving problems not ejecting from AIs in general? Am i doing something wrong or should I think about sending the rifle back to AI? Maybe the bolt is out of spec? This is my first AI and so far I've had issues with it both times I have taken it out.

In my AT I have shot .308,6cm and 6.5cm never has any issues. The 6.5x47 is a shorter case then the Creedmoor but if you barrel is chambered correctly that no issue. It sounds like there could be a bolt issue. I would give MileHigh a call on Monday speak to their AI tech. Post what you find out I would be interested to know what they say.

You can ship just the bolt to Mile High. Sounds like an extractor issue to me but could be something else. I had a similar issue with my AIs not extracting unfired rounds, but that was due to the barrel itself having excessive headspace.

Thanks for the suggestions. Does MH do warranty work? I know they are AI service center but I though I heard on one of the podcasts that they don't do warranty work.

you could probably get a new extractor or just send it in and get it checked...ive seen a few come thru that had extractors slightly out of spec or weak...not sure exactly what the problem was with them, but swapping the extractors fixed the issues in a couple different rifles

if you have another AT/AX handy you can swap the bolts and see if the other bolt works fine just as a test

Spoke to MH and since it's a warranty issue they will not be able to help me out unless I want to pay for service. Reached out to AI and the rifle will be going back to them. Just waiting for the shipping label.
Another issue that I didn't mention in the original post was that with the 6.5x47 rounds the top round pops out when the mag is inserted. It happened with 2 mags different mags. Per AI that happens with 6.5x47s since it's a shorter round and they said just to make sure the rounds are seated all the way back in the mag. I guessed that it has to be the length of the 6.5x47 case since it does not happen with the 308s. Maybe bending the mag lips a little would help.
