Hi all,

I have a good deal on an AI AW308 that is a 1.0 option, None adjustable cheek piece. Is it possible to modify it without any machining and using the AI OEM parts to turn it into a 1.5?

Let me know what you think...

Yes and No...

It depends on the year as there were changes to the chassis to make it so, but I don't know the date range.

Also I don't know if AI will do it anymore, when I took the Armors Course they talked about it and showed the differences and how to modify them, but they change their minds all the time on whether or not they will do something like that.

Comes down to what it looks like underneath, the year and whether or not they feel like it,

To expand on what Frank said- when I talked to Stacy about turning my 1.5 into a 2.0 (when he was still at AINA,) he said it depends on the chassis. Older ones had the back half welded to the front and cannot be upgraded. Newer ones had the back pinned to the front, and technically COULD be upgraded, however they were too busy at the time to deal with it.

It is my guess that any 1.0 is too old to upgrade. However, take your skins off and look at the chassis behind the reciever. If there is a weld where the 2.0 joint would be, you are SOL. If there is a pin, you should have a chassis that can be upgraded. Now it is whether or not they WILL.

And if they will, by all means do the folder! (2.0)

if it looks like the chassis below than I have detailed pics how to do the mod. Basically, if it has the dowel holes for the cheekpiece and threaded holes on the side your good to go, if not the only way to do it is modify the chassis.

Victor company sells the check pice holder. I had mine drilled and taped. It works just fine. I called ANIA and asked if I could. I was told it was the way they originally did it.

mate, if i was in the USA i would pay good money for a 1.0/// obviously they are not as practical as the 1.5 but they do have collector value to some people funnily enough

Its about a 10 minute job on the bridgeport. I have turned 1.0 into 2.0 but you need an aics to do it and that takes about 2 hours. Milling machines with dro's are the shit.
