AI AX - .284 Win Feedback Needed

I am thinking about ordering a .284 Win barrel for my AX. I love the 7mm and would really like to use one in my AI. 7mm-08 seems a little slow in the 162-168 gr zone. .284W can push a 168 to 2700 conservatively. The OAL of the AX mags is about 2.950”. The would allow a slightly longer “seat”.

Anyone have an experience doing something like this? Feeding issues? Results?

Will the .284 function in your magazine? That’s normally the hangup I think.

Not 100% sure. Using the Berger reloading manual, you can still seat the 168 gr VLD at a oal to 2.8” (normal SA length). The AX mag is 2.950+”.

maybe I just need an AXMC and rub 28 Nosler. Ha!

Win mag magazines are what I found worked best for my 284. Not an ax though

Just test fit some. The shoulder of the case rides atop the magazine rib.

It does hold them in the magazine amazingly, and they strip ok. Fit 7 rounds total. I’d be hesitant to go forward with one though. How bout a 7 SAW, or maybe Sherman makes something that would work?
