A friend of mine just bought a LA AICS. He installed his 6.5x55 Rem700 into it then inserted the mag. The mag went in and locked, but it would move up an additional .375" or so. So my question is, what stops the mag? In my short action AICS, the mag is stopped by the bottom of the receiver under the feed ramp. On his, it looks like the feed ramp/receiver needs to move back in order for the mag to touch. Is my thinking correct that the mag is stopped by the bottom of the receiver?

Disclaimer - I have no experience with the LA AICS conversions, just the SA.

On the SA versions, the magazine is usually stopped at the top end by the feed lips of the magazine contacting the lips that are part of the 700 receiver from the original box magazine. From there, it tends to drop back down in the magazine well until the ledge on the back of the magazine body makes contact with the magazine catch.

I took my borescope and check out my rifles, which are short actions, and found that the mag stops on the receiver in the front, the feed lips on the sides and possibly the adl tit (blind mag attachment point) at the rear. I wonder if this should be the same on the long actions.

Probably. I never looked that hard at the front and rear of my mags when they were seated in, as seeing them hitting the receiver lips was the most obvious stopping point.
