Can anyone tell me if a ai mag for 308 will work with c.o.a.l of 2.918. I'm looking at getting a aics 1.5 Or changing bottom metal and in letting for a mag syst. But if the mags won't work then theres no point.

AICS AI magazine will not work as it comes with an OAL of 2.918", most you can reliably fit into magazine is 2.865" OAL. Some magazines will take slightly longer but if you want to feed reliably from any/all AI AICS magazines 2.865" OAL is it.

Beyond 2.900" you'll need to notch feed ramp on a Rem 700. Most of the custom actions with AW cut will take longer OAL w/o any additional work to feed ramp.

You can remove front plate from the AI magazine or buy Accurate Magazine 300 WSM mag, tweak feed lips to hold 0.480" diameter body cartridge.

Not planning on doing anything yet. Just trying to get things layed out in my head. I have a rem sps tactical that's bone stock and been thinking of putting it in an aics chassis or a ptg dbm kit. But my coal is so long with the Bergers I'm likely gonna have to shorten them and re work my load I guess. I don't know what I wanna do......

Really? The website has them listed as in stock. Do they have a reputation for late shipping or are they just now catching up with demand?

Don't buy these unless:

You're buying from an individual that has them on hand, ready to ship TODAY.

You're willing to wait, perhaps 6+ months, for Alpha Industries to get them to you.

Must just be you. I ordered some a couple of months ago and got them in two weeks.

No.

It's not just me. Search around a little and you'll see multiple threads about this, spanning several years.

I'm genuinely glad to here you got the product you paid for in a timely manner though. Hopefully Alpha industries is turning over a new leaf.

afraid not was in reference to it must be him only....that is not the case. myself along with countless others have had serious issues with alpha industries and do not recommend them to anyone. glad you got your product in a timely manner. you're the exception and not the rule i would say.

AI mags?

So let me ask this. What are the guys doing ( as in the guys running mag systems) that shoot Berger vld's. Of coarse I have the enormous rem chamber. But I'm getting great groups from my current load and I'm reluctant to change it. I can truly say that I only want a aics 1.5 or 2.0 because they look cool. I have never handled one. My Tupperware stock seems to be doing fine. I don't shoot matches or anything like that. I only go to the deer lease and shoot at longer ranges for fun. I'm sure I will hunt with this gun this year, but I don't do a lot walking when I hunt whitetail or yotes.

Shoot something that likes to jump. Getting a vld jammed into a factory rem throat will be difficult with your long throat and slim mag options. Amax, hybrids, smk all shoot well with big jumps and run good around the 2.800's

Yea they aren't jammed right now. Can't remember how far from lands they are maybe .010

Just wanted to be able to load another round quickly if needed. Can't do that with current setup. I really like the Bergers but I guess I may have to switch

Experiment with seating depth because you could find the same (or better) accuracy even 50 thousandths off. I use SMK in my 308 and they have been very friendly loading to AI mag length. In my custom 223 I use the AI poly mags. They allow for longer seating depth and the VLDs are happy.
