Rifle Scopes AI Mount Question

Is there a way to tell which AI Dovetail mount I have? I don't see any markings.

I ordered a 45 MOA mount and I was under the impression that if I mounted a Hensoldt it would give me @ 5 MILs from bottoming out at 100. I have not shot this yet - but a quick bore sight at 50yrds means I am 10+ MILs away from the bottom.

Does anyone have a way to recognize a 28 from a 45? Aside from that can some one tell me the height from the bottom of the mount (where it makes contact with the dovetail) to the top (where the optic first makes contact with the mount)?

TIA

Re: AI Mount Question

Measure front height and rear height, note the difference. Then measure length of the mount and using that number and height difference calculate an angle...

My AI data:

length = 121mm
front height = 17mm
rear height = 17,65mm

17,65 - 17 = 0,65

tan(x) = 0,65/121
x = arctan(0,65/121)
x= ,307 degree * 60 = 18,46MOA (my mount is 18MOA as i have it mounted my measurements are not precise but they to get you into the ballpark...)

So the front in my 18MOA mount (6371 model No) is approx 17mm high (don't take it 100% as it's best i am able to measure while having scope mounted :))

Re: AI Mount Question

Here is a cut and paste of the response Stacey gave me when I asked the exact question:

you will need to measure the rear then the front and you will be looking for the following:
1. 18moa = .28"
2. 28moa = .39"
3. 45moa = .56"

all these are close ranges to check quickly.

Re: AI Mount Question

basically measurethe front and the rear. Subtract the two and check your diffrence againt the info above.

One thing I noticed is I think Stacey left a zero out when he shot me the PM and the numbers should be as I listed below.

1. 18moa = .028"
2. 28moa = .039"
3. 45moa = .056"

Re: AI Mount Question

I guess the asy answer could have been to measure my 28moa 34mm mount.

.705 Rear
.680 Front
---------------
.025 diffrence

Quick check above = 280moa mount.

As stacey said, it is a quick check

Smaller difference and 28moa? Are you sure the numbers are correct?

At a difference of .003 in relation to the "checklist" Stacey sent me I am confident with the numbers.

As every micrometer out there is not 100% accurate out to +/- .000000000000000000000000000000000001 and as stacey stated in his PM to me these are all just quick at a glance figures.

I ordered a 18 moa for mine and it is clearly stamped 18min on top at the front. With the scope I have fitted gives me 64 moa elevation. More than enought for a 7.62.
