Hello

I purchased an AI Mark 3 and I am wondering about purchasing a 260 barrel for it. What do AI barrels run. Should I go after Market. If so how makes good barrels (I have Krieger on most guns). What is the average cost for a smith to switch the barrel.

What is my best bet to do with the 308 barrel.

Thanks for your time.

Thanks for the correction to the mark III I was tired when typing last night.

Unless you have something special is probably not a mk5 it's got to be a MKI,MKII, or MKIII. Aina sells barrels in different calibers through Mile High or you can have SAC or any other good smith make one for you. My SAC 243 barrel on my MKIII is lights out as is my GAP chambered 260 barrel

AINA stocks 260 barrels and they're $660 for plain muzzle or $720 for threaded. On average a smith is going to run you $300ish for machine work on top of the $350ish for the barrel blank plus coating. The AI barrel is a better deal and readily available.

If I were you I'd invest in a action wrench, barrel vise, and decent torque wrench and install the barrel yourself. When you burn the 260 barrel out you'll already have the stuff to do it.

Currently my AE is at Mark Chanlynn being rebarreled with one of his barrels. Dave Tooley who does all of AINA barrel work is we'll know for his quality work. Part of deciding on who to use depends on what cartridge you want to shoot. Currently AINA pretty much stay with the more popular cartridge on their barrel options. Pretty much any good gunsmith can handle rebarreling your AE in a barrel of your choice.

I think I am going with 260 Remington. I looked on line and it seems pretty easy to put the barrel on my self. As long is it is an actual AI barrel. I have reached out to a few people to get some pricing. Thank you so much for your information.
