I am thinking of getting an AICS stock system for a build I am planning. I am looking at doing a 300wm. The question I have is about the lug. I know the stock will fit a stock Rem ug but how does it work with a thicker lug? Will this require machining the stock to fit the aftermarket lug?

Re: AI stocks for Rem 700

I asked Stacey Blankenship from AI the same question about the lugs and so forth

He told me the aics recoil lug slot was designed for a 100% factory lug. So that way any factory remington could literally be put into the stock and torqued down in a couple seconds

So the factory lug configuration and also a thickness up to .250

Also stacey told me if a customer customizes the AICS recoil lug area it could void the stocks warranty.

If you use a Badger lug you will need the slot opened up.

I used a Holland lug which is a nice fit, but I still had to remove .030" from the bottom to allow the action to pull down.

Once torqued down I have .003" under the bottom of the lug.

I prefered to modify a $30 lug rather than a $1'000 stock but that is just me
