I went to the range this morning with BM11 and was able to shoot his AIAX off his tripod just for fun. I didnot expect to be able to do anything special b/c I dont shoot much from a tripod seated. I shot 5 rounds at 100 yds and was very impressed with how easy the rifle is to soot. It is the same story every time I shoot the AX I walk away thinking I need to get one. BM11 has let others shoot this rifle, some of whom have never shot a precision bolt action rifle before and they all do very good. There must be some kind of special voodoo that AI does with there rifles because they just work well, even in unconventional positions and situations. I have to say I am impressed!

Keep in mind I make no calims of being a great shooter or anything and would not ever calim that I could do this agan. But here is the results: 5 rounds sitting with a tripod @ 100yds in no wind with 18F air temp = 0.335" CTC!

What is the tripod being used? Production? Home made? That's good shooting considering its not your rifle and its from a position that you don't practice.

    Re: AIAX VOODOO

True very true, the rifle was canted to the left a bit when I shot the group. It was canted when I sat down behind it and I just did not give a damn enough to square it up I just heald center. I didnt expect to shoot worth a crap in that position, but now I wish I would of taken the time to level it and then maybe just maybe the group would of been centered. Dosent matter, its not like I could do it agan any how.

Damn, missed 5 times in a row, better luck next time!

Seriously good shooting on jbell's part. I had shot a group kneeling behind the tripod at 100 yards and it was 1.5-2". And it's my damn tripod and rifle!

Treavor- the tripod is a DCLW DLOC. It's pretty sweet, but not without it's own shortcomings. The cant is an issue, I usually overcome it by only tightening the pic rail attachment enough to retain the rifle, but it still allows some side to side cant. This is what jbell referenced above, and the reason why the group was off the POA.

    Re: AIAX VOODOO

And to expand a bit on what jbell was saying, the rifle is just stupid easy to shoot. Here is a pic of a group my buddy shot prone with a bipod and rear bag/buttspike combo. It was second time shooting a rifle, his first time shooting a scoped rifle, and his first time shooting prone. Literally the first group he shot:

That is a .4xx group at 100 yards. He didn't know a 5 shot group was proper, so he shot 6.

Had another friend shoot, similar situation, never shot a rifle. His second group of the day at 230 yards was sub .25 moa.

Not saying that mine is special, only that AI rifles in general are a cut above, and due to the AX's geometry, a stupid easy rifle to shoot.

Good info, I didn't know this. I'm not real up to speed on the AICS/AX stuff.

I'm sure the AX is just like the AICS in that your either gonna love it or absolutely hate it.

I think I paid plus or minus $7500 for it, (that was just the rifle, not the Schmidt and Bender PM2 Gen 2 XR on it, the Spuhr, etc,) and it was worth every penny. I believe my handguard is the 16", as my 18.5 inch barrel barely protrudes.

Yes I understand that yous is a AI rifle, and I knew they were pricey.

I cut out stencils using my shooting mat as a guide and took my time. Came out pretty well, not perfectly matched to true multicam, but really close. It's worn off in places now after almost a year of use, but I think it only adds character!

    Re: AIAX VOODOO

I posted this thread to illustrate the quality and function in design of the AI series of rifles both the AW and the AX. If any one has any questions as to weather they are worth the money I have no dobut in my mind that they are. I have seen many threads on here about what rifle, a factory built TRG or an AI or a custom rifle based on a Remington style action. Well after a lot of time behind all styles I have settled on a TRG and an AIAW. I do love the quality in craftsmanship of the custom rifles that I have owned, I have had rifles that Jered @ APA built, Eric Reed & Moon @ GAP built, one by Bob Hart @ Hart barrels, and one by Kelbly. With actions ranging from a highly trued Remington 700 & 40xb, Kelbly Grizzly II mag fed, and Surgeon 591. With Factory tuned Remington triggers of all vintage 700 and 40x, Timney, Jewell, and Huber. In all forms of stocks with about every brand of barrel to include an ABS Rock. So I have a bit of experience with variety as far as rifles. I have been very impressed with all of them and even more impressed with the customer service from all these great companys and highly recomend all of them but at the end of the day its going to be a TRG or and AIAW/AX for me. Of course I still will use these great smiths to rebarrel when necessary but they are all limited by the materials they have to work with and in my mind that is the action and triggers. If someone could come out with an action that is compairable to the TRG or the AW/AX action then my opnion might change. With out going into too much detail here as to why I feel this way all I will say is go and give each one a good run and you will see for yourself. This is just my .02 and I am sure not everyone will agree with me but I just felt like sharing my thoughts, take them for what they are.

    Re: AIAX VOODOO

I just picked up an AX chassis from Mile High. It should be here mid next week. I cant wait to get it set up and go to the range for some testing. I'll post my opinion after that but I expect that it will be worth every penny.

    Thanks,

    Ike

The original poster even said, those tripods are bad ass. My ar10 when mounted in that tripod is stupid easy to shoot well. BM mount the DTA to that bitch
