AICS, Atlas mount

I have a newer AICS 2.0. I'm not really sure what the new "mount"/chassis extension is that extends forward of the skins. It moves the spigot mount outward, and has a rail/slot on the underside (not a pic rail). What is this for?

I specifically want to get an Atlas bipod, but am unsure which one to order/how to mount. All the searching I did brought up Atlas w/spigot mount for the AICS without the extension. Is this still the best way to mount?

Thanks.

Re: AICS, Atlas mount

If you really don't want the extension, you can replace it with the old style block. I got mine from Mile High Shooting. It's easy enough to do, there are old threads with details.

As for which Atlas to get, if you use the spigot mount you can get the one that attaches directly to it, or you can get rails for the spigot mount and use either of the Atlas models that will mount to a rail. You'll want to do the latter if you think you'll move the bipod to a non-AICS rifle with a rail periodically.

ah, okay.
Here's one:

Basically, take off the skins, take out the block screws, and punch out the large pin. Then you have to pull the block forward a bit so that the sling attachment bar can be removed. Best way I found to do that is to use the spigot mount with the atlas attached, just mount it and it'll give you a good grip to pull the block forward. Put a drop of oil under the bar though, there's a dot of rubber that makes it hard to get out without the oil (you can see where the rubber is on the new block).

Then take the pin out for the spigot lock and put the latch and spring in the new block (if it doesn't have it already, mine didn't).

The shorter block doesn't use the screws for mounting, just the pin btw.

Writing this up from memory so I hope I have it right...

Re: AICS, Atlas mount

I have an AICS 1.5 and the spigot, I just bought the bipod thats scews with two screws into the spigot. Will this pigot not just click into the end of my stock? I am out of town so i wont get to mess with it for a while. Seeing if i need to order an extension or something else? thanks

Re: AICS, Atlas mount

The extension is used to mount picatinny rails on its side for night vision mounting options. I contacted accuracy international and that is the answer they gave me. I have the one of the newer stocks as well and mounting an AI bipod to the extension looks ridiculous. Im trying to find out where i can trade it out for the original hand stop.

Re: AICS, Atlas mount

I just replied to another thread about this. Call Mile High Shooting and tell them you need an older spigot block. I just bought one from them about 3 weeks ago. Easy to install. You'll either need a shorter roll pin for the lock, or cut down the longer one from the NV spigot block.
