Accuracy International certainly has a great following / branding. I've seen / handled a couple of rifles and like them.

I'm going to build a precision long range target rifle in the near future. It would mostly be used for fun, but may occasionally see some F-class action.

I like the adjustability. The fact that it's a chassis with bottom metal built in gives it a bit of a value proposition versus a higher end custom stock. Mounting a big scope would make a DBM much more important. It looks like it would be very difficult to shoot from a position other than prone.

What are your thoughts on using the AICS chassis as a stock given my purpose?

How much bedding work typically needs to be done?

Thanks,
QD

You don't need to bed the AI chassis at all. You bolt it in and go, thats the beauty of it. The aluminum bedding block is designed to self center the action.

I dropped a plain jane remington 700 SPS action and barrel into my AICS 1.5 in about 3 minutes. Mounted and leveled my scope. Took it to the range and zeroed it. It shoots .3's at 100 yards consistently with a variety of ammo. I have shot a 12x18 paper target at 840 yards with it and there are 3 rounds touching...one hole. I can't imagine bedding the action would improve it any over that kind of accuracy. What bedding it does do is prevent you from mounting another rifle to it, and reduces its resale value if you decide to sell it in the future.

I use mine for fun and plan to shoot some F class when I get my reloads worked up. I think its fine for what you want to do with it. I was hesitant until I bought one and shot it a bunch. Its great, you won't be sorry.
