Is there typically much modification needed when installing a Rem 700 into a AICS chassis? It seems like a very tight fit (good thing) but i am concerned it is almost too tight in parts of the barrel channel.

Re: AICS Installation

SLO, I don't know where you've got your information but you couldn't be further from the truth. The barrel channel will easily accommodate the heaviest barrel off a R700 action with plenty of room to spare, so go ahead and order that 1.25" dia parallel contour.

The only modification usually ever needed would be if you had an extra thick recoil lug installed, then the recoil lug slot would need to be milled out slightly.

If you've got a standard barrelled action there are no issues, its a case of plug and play.

Re: AICS Installation

I just dropped a rifle into a AICS last night. With a GAP #7 (roughly MTU profile), there is plenty of room to spare.

Features that deviate from standard R700 specs - custom actions, side bolt releases, different bolt handles, aftermarket triggers, thicker recoil lugs, etc. - may require minor modification.

Re: AICS Installation

Thanks guys. Jagged77, I was posting because when I test fitted my factory 5R Milspec last night, it seemed like it was tight under the barrel towards the action. I didn't fully fit it in tho. I'll try again today.

Why in the world would you only have the rear screw tightened? What does the rear screw have to do with the ops question? When the receiver is properly torqued into the aics the bore will be parallel with the chassis.

To the op, you will have plenty of room around the barrel.
