This is the problem I'm experiencing with my Rem 700 .308 with XLR Element chassis and AICS 10rd mags. I have read through the AICS magazine threads, and searched for AICS mag modification threads, but only came up with one thread that didn't answer this question.
Has anyone ever had a need to slightly modify or smooth out the feed lips on AICS mags because it's difficult to chamber a round from the mag? The mag seems to fit perfectly and with no play, and the bolt doesn't hit the back of the mag when going forwards, but the tip of the bullet does not start to move up the feed ramp easily when it needs to, and forward pressure on the bolt seems to only deform the tip of the bullet and then finally go up the feed ramp and chamber after applying quite a bit of pressure on the bolt just to get the cartridge out of the magazine. I'll try to take some pictures tomorrow - or better yet, maybe even a video of what's going on. These magazines are not easy to find or inexpensive, so I am really hesitant to do anything to even slightly modify it. Will it "break in" over time and allow me to feed cartridges easier eventually?
