I keep having the 3rd from the last round moving forward in my AICS 5rd mags.

With 5 rd in the mag it is the 3rd round and with 4 rd in the mag it is the second round. From what I belive is happening the follower is moving forward towards the rifles recoil lug. The gunsmith notched the reciever feed ramp to allow for mag length feeding, and the other rounds do it just fine but it keeps doing it with the 3rd round in the mag. When it does this it kicks the bullet tip over and catches under the feed ramp.

Is there a way to lengthen the follower? So that it can't move forward? Or a good safe way to dissasemble the AICS mags and try to figure it out myself?

Rifle is a M700 7mm-08 with 162AMAX's.

Re: AICS Mag Follower Movement?

I have the outer sheetmetal, split in front (outer) where the mag sheetmetal is joined together, then a plate roughly 5/64 thick and a gap that I can fit a 5/64 allen bit inbetween the follower and the plate.

If that is too confusing I can snap a picture.

Mag came with the Badger M5 and only marking on it is ".308"

Re: AICS Mag Follower Movement?

please take a picture of the top of the mag showing the follower. But it sound slike the feed ramp on your action needs to be notched.

Re: AICS Mag Follower Movement?

a little bit of movement is not a problem, but if the spacer plate in front of the mag is not there, you will need to notch the feedramp.

Re: AICS Mag Follower Movement?

here is the best picture I could find showing a feedramp notch to allow the bullet to clear and not get stuck under it.

I can't get my camera to focus on the "jammed" round with the scope on....I can pull it off if need be to verify problem.

Re: AICS Mag Follower Movement?

that is one very small notch! needs to look more like this

have your smith make the notck all the way to the wall of the bottom metal like in the pic above. Ans while you are at it, have him remove the spacer plate in front of the mag all together so you can sear those 162gr pills longer. The follower moving forward will not have any ill effects once the ramp is properly notched.

Re: AICS Mag Follower Movement?

thats because the bottom of your action is round, so when it hits the pressure is making it move to the side. Notch it deeper, all the way to the front wall of the bottom metal and you will be good to go. You can do it with a Dremel and small sanding drum. Ive dont a few friends and mine that way and it worked out very well.

Re: AICS Mag Follower Movement?

Ok I got the reciever notched so they feed correctly.

Next question:

To remove the forward plate I just drill out the spot welds and the plate falls away? And does doing that effect the integrity of the magazine?

Re: AICS Mag Follower Movement?

Yes you have to drill the spots for the plate to fall out. But you will need to have the holes filled so under recoil, the tip of a round doesnt go in the hole and create a jam.

Or you could just find and buy a AccurateMag WSM magazine and sell you mag here on the hide.
