AICS Mag problem

I have a 10 round AICS mag for my Rem 700 308. I have noticed that the when fully loaded the first few rounds feed fine, but then the rest of the rounds have a tendency to stick and not feed. The bullet tip seems to be holding up. I have tried several different types of bullets (SMK, AMAX...) with a COAL of 2.805 max.

Has anyone experienced this issue? Could it be a weak spring, or something with the rounds?

Thanks,

Re: AICS Mag problem

I only have one 10 round, however my 5 round mags work fine.

The nose is catching in the mag, not on the feed ramp. The base of the round comes up, but the nose does not.

I have not tried stretching the spring, but I will.

The mag is 2 years old, and I keep it unloaded except when using.

Re: AICS Mag problem

Ok so when the base of the round moves up and the nose stays down, is the nose getting caught on the from of the mag? Or is it the follower causing the issue.

How far is the nose of the round below the top of the mag, IOW how much would the nose need to move up to be free and load properly.

Re: AICS Mag problem

Try 2.800 oal. I'm pretty sure that's Hornady's load length. That would cause a feed failure bullet tip dragging on front of mag. Yep I've done that. You might have 2.805 on some bullets and 2.808 on others when seating they aren't always the same oal. Not all bullets are exactly the same length.

Re: AICS Mag problem

I have tried 2.800 COAL. I have the same problem. It seems that the base plate/follower is not putting enough pressure on the front of the round. The front usually lags the base by .1 inches.

Even if there is enough room in the mag for the tip to not touch, during use, the rounds seem to move forward (as a whole) and touch the front of the mag and not the back.

I guess I will just keep using my 5 round mags.

Re: AICS Mag problem

Try tweaking the rear of the feed lips OR the front. Either the rear is pinching in too much or the front is. by adjusting this you can control how the round pops up. The wider the better. Sometimes if you spread the front out so the bullet tip points higher they will feed smoother because the tip will hit higher up onto the feed ramp. If you go too much the bolt will miss the case and wont feed.

Re: AICS Mag problem

Man I hate to hear this mag issue. Before very long I'm going to need a a couple Aics magazines any word on the c products Aics mags having this issue too? As much as they cost they should be perfect! There may be a point where the follower is bottle necked on the way up the inside of the mag canting the bullet tips forward. Maybe the follower is the issue (at a wrong angle) What has their customer service rep said about this? This is wrong they should replace it for you.

Re: AICS Mag problem

I have seen some issue with the feed lips on some AICS and AW mags. If you can't see at least this much of the primer from the back of the mag tweak the lips a little. I also like to have the front of the lips a little wider then the rear to keep the bullet tip up.

Re: AICS Mag problem

what about the C mags for use with the CDI precision floorplate...

they will use either AI or C mags...

I am considering ordering one of the set-ups....BUT I have a H~S with 3 10rnd and 1 5rnd....SO I am also just considering another one these...but the other mags are alot cheaper!
