I just purchased a pvs27 from a member on here and it is my first clip on nv. Ive been running a pvs 14 and ir laser on my gun up until this point. Most of my rifles are in AICS 2.0's my 308 and 300 blk have 15 or 20 moa bases on them and the surgeon remedy is a 30 moa i believe. I'm looking at getting some badger IMUNS for them but dont know if I need the regular or 20 moa version. Any experience or advice would be greatly appreciated.

No you wouldn't "need" matching MOA rails.

If his 27 is working correctly, he has a degree or two to work with.
I think the factory info says 1 degree but I know for a fact we have had them outside of that envelope and still no POI shift.

22s, 27s and 30s that are in calibration are super forgiving. If any of your units are even slightly out of spec, you will get a consistent POI shift even on perfect angle and offset.

When buying new stuff you wouldn’t try and get the angles and heights correct?

Agreed if possible and reasonably priced. That being said, I've done 20 MOA and 30 MOA difference w/ PVS-27s and had absolutely zero issues. Tonight I am going to do 50 MOA (30 MOA on my Ruger Precision Rimfire rail plus 20 MOA LT-745 mount, 0 MOA handguard mount for the 27) to see how that works since I have enough room in the turret. I don't foresee any issues since the manual says it will tolerate a full degree. The PVS-30s I had were very forgiving in this regard too, but the 27 wins big in the passive image quality and ease of focus department IMO.

Most certainly.
That would always be nice if executable without being a PITA.

My reply was only posted because your choice of words in your original post conveyed the idea that it was mandatory.

We shoot as much night fire as possible at every class. Every class, I do a demo using one of mine or a student's clip-on that has proven to show no shift after we run other exercises.

I have someone fire 3rds at a 100yd circle from prone with white light. We then kill the white light, have them mount and tweak the gain and focus one more time. Then I kneel next to their position, remove the unit from the rail and hand hold it in front of their scope objective while they fire 3 more rounds. Result is always overlapping groups. Not uncommon to have all 6rds around an inch or under.

I do this to help keep the black magic out of their learning process and give them confidence in their equipment,

Any idea of anyone that calibrates 27’s and what it costs?

If your unit is not hot, FLIR will recalibrate/collimate. They may have one or more authorized service locations to direct you to.

I think they shut down OSTI after acquiring them.

Couple others used to do it including Peter in CO but don't know currently.

Does anyone do BAE UTC thermals ? I have one that even with height and angle perfect it is off up to a half mil in windage and .2 mil elevation. Thanks

I'm sure they would handle somewhere in the US but I'm dumb as a rock on where.
Call their office or email them direct.

I'm sure someone here could chime in and properly steer you.
