I posted a couple of threads about the AICS 1.5 on a Remington 700 SS 5r mils pec .300 win mag with a 26" bbl. here's how it went.
When I first tried to seat the barreled action in the chassis I realized that my Jewell hvr trigger was too big and had to dremel out a good bit of the trigger housing and some off the trigger safety. Ended up working out just fine.
Then I realized my dedicated scope (NF NXS 5.5x22x50) with badger rings ( medium) was too low because of the comb and was not going to work but thankfully I had another nxs (5.5x22x56) with mark IV HIGH rings and swapped scopes. It was a perfect fit to my Los and had perfect eye relief.
Then came the torque issue. I have a Wheeler torque wrench but it was impossible to get in the action screws. So I just tried to get it as close as possible. It was NOT GOOD on the first go around. I had vertical stringing and was really getting worried. This happened my next two tries as well. So I finally went to the hardware store and got a long single Allen wrench with a Tee handle where I could control the amount of toque somewhat better. It made all the difference in the world. Was putting 1/3 to 1/2 moa groups down with ease with a proven load that I've taken out to 1200 yards.
So while it feels WONDERFUL to be behind shooting, it proved to be a pain in the ass to get it right but once I did there are still no regrets. I shot it today at 945 yards and it shot great. Much more pleasurable prone than the hs stock.
Anyways , just my thoughts on an upgrade to the Remington 700 with an AICS ....
