So I just got a remington xcr in 300 winchester Magnum.....bought a AICS stock and threw leupold Mark 4 8.5x25x50 on top of it,,,, took me about 35 minutes, to make sure rings and scope where perfectly level.... Then I remembered I needed to clean the barrel out.... went to take the bolt out and it hits the cheek swell...... How can you build a 800-1200 dollar stock and miss this fact..... now I know that you can just loosen it up and slide the bolt out but what a pain.. but it looks cool

If the comb does not interfere with removal of the bolt; it's the exception.

Congratulations on your new rifle!

2 thumb screws - 1/4 turn, pull pad off. Even with your eyes closed this will take about 3 or 4 seconds.

If the cheek piece is not in the way of bolt removal then it is not in the correct place for proper cheek weld.

Re: aics stock remington 700 what the He??

I keep a hex wrench in the case with the gun. removes easily and I purchased the victor spacers so that the cheek pieces quickly goes back to exactly the same place every time. They are available in I think 1mm intervals if you purchase the correct combination. With my MK 4- 8.5-25x50 with MK 4 Medium rings I use a 7mm spacer, but no one else I shoot with can see through the scope with it that high. guess I have skinny cheeks?

Re: aics stock remington 700 what the He??

^^^ +1...With the fixed stock AICS the Victor spacers are a must. Without them you are likely to have a slightly different cheek weld each time you reinstall the cheek riser. Inconsistent cheek weld = Inconsistent groups!

Re: aics stock remington 700 what the He??

I've always made small spacer out of flat plastic or wood shims that are only put between the 2 rods and attached to the cheek piece. It is small and effective and if the screws are loose it will not go lower and is easy to replace after cleaning.

I actually was going to buy a cheap HDPE cutting board and make a spacer for mine, but then I saw the victors. For what they charge, it was not worth trying to make my own.
