Hey guys I am in the market for an AICS stock. I am looking a going to used route to try to save some money. I do not care if it is the fixed stock or the one with the adjustable check piece+the folding aspect. I do prefer black but would settle for a green one if a deal was there. Where would you recommend looking for a used deal on one of these? I have been searching and havent found much on used ones. If I have to go to new route which is the best place to purchase new? Thanks
RYAN

Re: AICS stock

I have been debating between the A5 and the AICS. I havent shot either. I chose the AICS becuase you dont have to bed it and it is a drop in platform. I actually like how the A5 looks better than the AICS, but i like how the AICS has the detachable magazine. If i saw either one for a good deal i would purchase it. I am leaning towards the AICS right now though due to the bedding benefit and the magazine with out having to purchase bottom metal. thanks

Re: AICS stock

you should feel both THEN take into account theier benefits. You may think AICS is the best on paper, but may hate the way it feels so who cares if it is ready to go??
BTW, i LOVE aics stocks, i have 3 and have purchased all used here on the hide. 1.5 Used go for $700-800, some go for near/more than "new" price due to the fact they have been inletted for oversized recoil lug, or Jewell trigger.

Re: AICS stock

I was in your shoes 4-5 years ago, I bought a AICS 1.5, shot 20 rounds and sold it to Match308, I hated it, I bought a McM A5 inletted for BO M5, IMHO the ACIS feels cheap, BUT since going to trigger school with Rifles Only I might not feel the same, the AI is a cheaper way to get into a DBM stock/system, and doesn't require bedding but a bedded anything will shoot better, again try before you buy, you may love it.

Re: AICS stock

I just moved from houston to corpus. I am so close to rifles only that i want to get out there. The rifles 1&2 is just to long. I cant get off that many days in a row. I am not going to lie, i feel like i may be to new of a shooter to even attend rifles 1&2. I have hunted for years. it has just been a 100 yard zero and go hunt deal though. I have thought of doing to private instruction there though. 1 one a week would seem to be very beneficial. I have a trued remington 700 with a bartlien barrel and a rifle basix trigger.

If you can get there for instruction, that instruction and a case of ammo will be money WAY better spent than a new stock. After a visit to RO you will have more insight to what gear you really need than the forum will ever tell you. Plus you may have the opportunity to feel the difference-as the difference in a McM A series and an AICS setup is in how they feel and work for an individual, not how they look.

Re: AICS stock

Try before you buy. I never did I just purchased it, however i do not regret this.

I never realised there were so many that didnt appreciate the AI feel until I came on these forums.

Regardless i still love mind, and the weight doesn't bother me. If anything its forcing me to get a really good form to use it sitting and standing.

On the bench and prone I love it... i can completely mend into the stock and it just feel right.

It has its pros and has it cons, but each to their own.

Re: AICS stock

Best decision you made to shoot first, and get a better idea of what you like. In the long run you will save money, time, and trouble.

That being said, at least for me, I prefer A5 because the wider foregrip is more stable on rests/bags. I also like the grip and texture of A5 more. For me the thumbhole AICS is restrictive, but the advantage is that it promotes the same trigger/hand position. Something to consider is that in different shooting positions (e.g. off-hand, sitting, prone, etc) your most comfortable length of pull and hand position may vary. Also, depending on if you shoot with the pad or tip of your finger, different grips and stocks will feel more comfortable.

Good luck.

Doesn't everybody just shoot prone?

......just kidding. Actuall that's great advice. I thought A5's were tops for the past few years, but I put an A3 on my latest rifle and its really shining when I get stuck shooting in weird positions.

Re: AICS stock

With the AICS 1.0's fixed cheek rest, cleaning can be a pain in the rear. I had the 1.0 with a 22" barrel. I ordered the longest cleaning rod Dewey's offered (44" I think), which worked fine, but any shorter rod or longer barrel, and the rod handle and cheek rest would have intereferred with each other. The rod itself just barely skims over the cheek rest of the 1.0.

FYI only.
