AK DMR

Good afternoon everyone. First post....

AKs always hold a place near and dear. This is my Yugo M90 built out as a DMR. 18" barrel cut down to 16" with an Occam adjustable gasblock fab combo. SLR handguard and soon to have the accompying rail. Folding stock is a custom by yours truly.

Rifle patterns about 2-3 MOA depending on ammo. Average off the shelf 77s fall in this range. The Frontier 68s are between 3-4. Alot of the grouping is on me and a less than desirable trigger.

The 1-8x is decent, but for this build already finding it lacking. Looking at a 2-12 or a 3-18. Trigger will be tuned and reevaluated. An ALG might be the next move, but for thise of you that know Egos you will know that ALGs and Yugo bolt carriers dont always make happy bed fellows. The MOE gripI also found to be less than ideal with my hands so will be swapping for a Palm or Tango.

Also debating a TWS railed dustcover since the standard Yugo side rail sits high. I have a RS regulate im going to try first, once I decide on the optic (and moving the top dot forward with a different mount).

Thoughts? What is everyone elses experience building an AK as a SPR/DMR? Glass wise, 2-12 or 3-18?

A Yugo NPAP or ZPAP wouldn't have been my first choice. A Beryl would've made a better foundation for a factory 556 gun to build off of. I've had my experience with Zastava and it's always been overwhelming soft metal components that wear out quicker than they should.

the TWS rail can get the job done but you have to be very critical installing it. Id use the RS Reg and a lighter 2-10x or a higher end lighter weight 1-8. Better glass makes up for less magnification.

After that I'd look at one of the Galil builds from Evocatus Strategic in 308 or 6.5cm.

The stock looks good, I always dig the home made stuff 👌

Didnt plan on it, but this one shot so well (better than most my ARs....) it just a life of its one. I have a kit im buidling off polish parts that will have the Occam Merc.

Agreed that better glass would be better, but the 2-12 im looking at has a reticle i really like.

Maybe that’s why they had to use a “RPK patterned reinforced receiver,” to make up for the lousy steel.

If only we still imported Norincos…
Originally it was for the M70s to rifle the rifle grenades. Now I think its because it would be more expensive to change all the tooling. My other Yugos do very well with wear. Seems to be a mix, that to me is a bigger issue as there inconsistency in metallurgy.
