Waste of time and money. If we need new prisons, then build one! Doing it on an island....dumb!

I mean, not a lot of prison breaks happening in today's world that we need an island prison. Not like we have a lot of prison breaks today. I think most of that is people already out and not reporting back in. We are such a connected society, people can't hide for long.

Who do we put in there first?
Some of our more experienced concrete guys with a couple of teams of demo guys, level it and start over, it will be cheaper

It is more of the same 2 more weeks / prepping the public / it's figurative not literal.

Trump also spoke to reporters about his decision, saying it was “just an idea” and said “radical judges” coddling illegal aliens are playing a key part in the decision.

“It’s a symbol of law and order and it’s got quite a history, frankly, so I think we’re going to do that, and we’re looking at it right now,” Trump added.

Not cost effective which is the reason why Alcatraz was shut down as a federal prison.

Everything must be brought in. Even if the prison was restored to the same condition when built, which it hasn't been, the prison authority would still have to bring in food, water, fuel (for generators) and everything necessary to operate a prison. Alcatraz also housed the guards' families and the kiddies caught the boat to San Francisco to attend school (Alcatraz is within San Francisco County lines). Housing for guards would have to be rebuilt (Indian occupation burnt it leaving the concrete shell). San Francisco County Jail #3 had a farm (drunks/bums) that grew vegetables for the jail, the county hospital and when there was surplus, Alcatraz (bet nobody here knew that).

Last tidbit: the Civil War casemate still exists beneath the prison. It's not like the movie. The caponiers are still there too but there is no access as it's a bird breeding ground and the NPS don't want to bother the birdies.

How many billions is that going to cost to refurbish ?

Built in 1933 and closed as a prison in 1963 (62 years ago) it is a relic that has been decommissioned more than twice the time it was in service. Hard to believe that this is at all a cost effective endeavor with taxpayer money.

I bet we could build a much bigger facility for a lot less money somewhere other than the coast of California. If we can’t keep people from escaping with modern technology, something is wrong.

Quite frankly it should be a prison where inmates work to pay their freight.

Freakin Government just loves to piss stolen tax money away……

Screw opening up Alcatraz. I say put up fencing, barb wire and pitch tents out in the Arizona deserts. I bet Trump could con Joe Arpaio in coming back to run the place.
I do not think these are the type of inmates you can put into that kind of detention ....we are talking the ones that do not play well with any one .....SHU/SEG/MAX/CREMATORIA

Trump's pardon is the only thing that kept Arpaio out of one of those jails.

He also cost Arizonans over $278,000,000 in court costs and payouts.

Yeah, that's what they say about all of them.

These are the worst of the worst! Rapists! Murderers! Killers!

In reality... many have never been convicted of a crime in their entire lives.

It's all just fake bullshit.
