Decided to find a way to transport my ammo in one container and we opted to screw around with a 3-D printer… got one of the other hide members to help me with the cad aspect of it…

I’ve seen a few people playing around with Milwaukee packs… and then this thought occurred to me.

I’m printing up the 6 Creedmoor now; surprisingly, it works flawlessly…

That got to take a pile of filament. What kind of printer setup are you using & how long does it take to print something like this?

If you feel like making a few extra I'd love a 6ARC, 223, 6.5C, 308. Any one or combination. Just let me know how much.

I am happy to print them for whoever wants one…

It requires two rolls of filament, and if you want to pay me for it, buy three rolls and send them to me. (Two of them are absolutely gonna be used to print your insert!)

Right now, I have 308, 6GT, 6ARC, 6CM, and we’re working on 65 CM.

There are a couple of options, but you generally wanna go with something that can handle high heat… just in case.

And a very interesting one is probably the simplest material it can be printed with… and it is good to about 300°F:

That one is interesting in that I have to anneal parts when done. Is certainly not as structurally strong as ASA or ABS, but it is extremely temperature stable. And let’s be honest… It’s highly unlikely that impact resistance is gonna be your most important concern.

Similar to the HT – PLA, there is also a glass reinforced version of the stuff that prints really sweet, and that adds some additional physical strength and durability to the part. It’s called HT – PLA – GF and it’s the same company.

They’re pretty sturdy and they kind of need to be… it’s about 1.78 depending… I could probably get it down if I lower the infill.

The bigger concern I generally have is probably wanting to use something that is more thermally stable. For example, if it gets stored in a hot car, do you really want to use PLA? … As opposed to ABS, or ASA, or some high temperature PLA variant, and those tend to be a bit more pricey.

I just got done doing a run of 300 Norma Magnum inserts for an acquaintance and we used the PLA high temperature glass fiber filament, and then annealed them in the oven… and it’s actually better than ABS or ASA… and possibly even some nylon.

A few folks have reached out to me and when they realize what it costs in material (~$50-60)…

@GBMaryland is a good friend of mine and lives near by....so he is working on one in 6.5 CM for me.

But yes, you must consider the price. $35 for the Milwaukee case plus about $50 for two rolls of ABS filament.

So, not for everybody but....kind of cool that you can get over a case of ammo in them. Great for clinics and other high volume shooting and its easy to carry.

I did find the Milwaukee case surprisingly sturdy and of good quality. Nice box.
