I got out today to shoot a second round of load development. The rifle is a Savage F/TR 30" factory barrel, Hornady 178gr BTHP and Alliant Pro MR 2000 powder.

Here is Day one results with loads from 44-48 grs

Here is todays results, what do you make of it? It's all still a little confusing to me?

Thx Diego

Man did you feel good behind the rifle today? Reason I ask is that 47.5 and 48 were spot on the other day. Looked like one of the 47.5's was a pull the other day. Today your 47.8 and 48 opened. Did you change something? 47.8 should of been tight and ocw

Hence, there lays the problem, nothing change from then to today, on neither day did I feel like I pulled any shots? That is what is blowing my mind!! 48.2 and 48.4 had one holers going until the 3rd shot! I was very very careful with reloading as well? Sako, part of the OCW test is only shooting three? I did shoot groups of 4 with the 48gr load each at 10, 20, 30 off the lands, I did not like those results either!@! This is a stock savage tube that has been diamond lapped and
re-crowned, the jacked up part is it is shooting the exact way now as it was prior to the work? Hopefully Dan will chime in with his thoughts?

temperature change....... From day to day ??????

How about your bore? Was it clean clean on day one? Did you clean before day two? Could be fouled a little. Also did you round robin? What about cooling time in between rounds? Last question. Did you change the power of your scope? I always shoot on the lowest power possible. It helps me stay on target. When I shoot on high power to where I can see impacts I get a little squirrely chasing that one ragged hole dream.

We've worked with this powder, and CFE223 in the .308's, and while it does allow you to drive the bullets really fast, the pressure seems to be very high near and at the max charge--even though the bolt lift may seem fine, groups open up very possibly in response to the overall stressing of the receiver and/or brass cases. The accuracy nodes should show up at something close to 3 percent intervals, but near max charge the nodes just aren't there... hence my notion that pressure is just too much for the system to handle.

If it were me, I'd choose 46.3 grains and see if you can find some day in, day out consistency there. Trying a couple different seating depths at 46.3 grains may tighten things even more.

Good luck. :)
