What's the distance everyone keeps theirs at. My rifles muzzle blast was blowing the front sticker off and the sunshade visor off. And how consistent are the velocity readings cause my lowest load was 3400 and my middle load was around 3000 and a facory round I shot said 3800.

Push it out as far as you can get until the cable is too tight.
I find them to be very sensitive bits of equipment.
The further out the better. Less interference from muzzle blast. I find if it too close, even when the guy next to me shoots his rifle i get error messages.
Next time i take my one out, if it gives me trouble im just going to put a bullet through it! and then il buy a CED M2

I put my Beta @10 feet ...when it worked.
It started erroring out if anybody anywhere on the range fired ...and I was on a 20-station shooting range!! I already had sent it back twice in the two previous months and it came back from the last "fix" with this new trick. So I sent it back <span style="text-decoration: underline">again</span> and told them that if they wouldn't fix it at their expense they could give the damn thing to the Boy Scouts (do they call them that in Canada?). They sent back a new one.
While it was gone, I needed to keep doing load development so I bought a CED M2. I are much happier now.
I keep the Beta for a backup but, funny thing, the M2 just never seems to need it.

In JBM you input MV and distance to the chrono. Does anyone have a formula that calculates the true MV rather than that out at say 10 or 20 ft. I appreciate it isn't likely to be dramatically different but I'm curious to know if its possible.

JBM lists it in the "Calculated Table" as the 0 yard velocity. For my .308, there's 6 fps difference.

My Chrony sits unused. I got rained on once, and has been a lyin' bastich ever since.
If I were to use it, I would push it out to where I can still just barely read the numbers (it has no cord).
Sure there'll be some discrepancy because it's not at a precise distance, but, like, the danged thing lies anyway...

I have a master beta which has the separate screen. I run mine until the cord is snug which is right around 12ft if i recall correct. I have not had an issue with mine it works great. But i dont shoot at a range so cant help on that part.

This thing is retarded. One of my shots yesterday registered 5800+ fps out of a .243 and it was my second lowest powder charge of the day. I guess Im going to call the place I got it from and see if they will let me bring it back or I guess I will set it up way down range and stick a few bullets in it and take it as a learning lesson. Should've asked but I didnt want to be the newb.

Mine is especially persnickitty with regard to sunlight. If the sun is fairly high in the sky and hits one or both of the sensors, I get bogus readings. When I erect a sunshade, everything comes back to the range of believability.

Some of them work fine but that's precious little consolation when you've got one of the duds. It's been my experience that that particular brand experiences a very high dud ratio.

I've run into that, too, so I carry a small section cut from an old shower curtain that I can clip to the side with binder clips and let hang between the screens as a sunshade. If my possibles box gets much bigger, I'm gonna have to buy a gooseneck to haul my crap to the range.

That brings up a good point. That's how I knew for certain my first Beta Master was wack. I shot the same POA @200, 300 & 400 yards and measured the bullet drop. There's several apps around that'll let you calculate MV from different aspects of range data, to include bullet drop. So I did and the bullet said my chrono was lying, and you know what they say: believe in the bullet.
