Huh, thx for that. Never would’ve thought the FOV on the USA Schmidt at 6x would be better than the ZCO at 5x, but I’ve never looked at the specs. How much better? (actual through-the-lens, hopefully in mils)
If that’s true then I wonder how soon we could expect to see new offerings from the top manufacturers
I can say beyond a doubt that the contrast on an 840 doesn't suck... I have one and have looked down TTs at the range and they are VERY close, maybe a smidge better for the TT. But that photo they show does NOT represent the glass in a ZCO well at all. I don't know what happened but that contrast doesn't look great in that photo, however shooting a couple thousand rounds down one in various conditions (including rain, snow, at Dawn and dusk) to my eye I was able to pick out any target no matter how battered and worn against similar colored backgrounds, something that was far more difficult in my NF 5-25 ATACR. Also I do have a newer ZCO (got it a year ago). Take it for what it is from my opinion, it's just that an opinion.
Schott has a massive catalog of glass & coatings to meet customer specifications, including price point. It's not all the same.
Not all glass is equal, even from Schott. Schott has many different "formulas" for different grades of glass.
I don't think conceptualizing it as "glass" is helpful to understanding the difference. For instance people seem to say that ZCO has more contrast and "pops" more compared to TT's more neutral image. I don't think that necessarily arises from just ordering a different grade of glass off of a list.
And where did you hear this? I just don't see Zeiss leaving the sport optic market.

"To me, the ZCO 840 is the scope everyone wished for, high mag, high resolution throughout the magnification range, its optical perfection.
At first I wasn’t sure about the size, i try to shoot a lot of smaller calibers, lighter rifles, so I was like, man it’s long, but after using is it, seem less to get behind it.
With Zco, I like the simplicity, they are not trying to whizz bang the features, it’s straight forward and solid. It’s really nice to be behind, and i find I can shoot on Higher magnification with the optical perfection of this scope.
See I generally have a personal sweet spot with scopes are 12-18x power. I feel the 25x cleans up around 18x, gives me enough eye box and magnification to stay behind it even during recoil. Now with the 8-40x, I am much higher in the 20x, around 27x so for smaller targets and using the reticle so much better resolution.
I am gonna talk on a video with this optic, I was just waiting on the right timing, which is probably everyday as it’s that good.
But I am religious behind it, I love my ZCo, 840 …
As a data point of comparision, and since you love FOV, here are the numbers from my K540i. I made the switch from a ZCO 527.

I agree. They are far from my favorites. But. You buy a Kahles for the FOV and to dial. The parallax wheel and LSW are a big advancement for dialing on the clock. The more you are on your horizontal and vertical stadia, the less critical the reticle becomes.
