I have a rem 700 getting worked over by C. Dixon right now. It's going to have PTG DBM installed (manners T stock if that matters). Anyway, I have 2, 5rnd magazines for this rifle, and was looking around for 10 rounders. I clicked on Alpha Industries' add here on the hide and while browsing through their website I came across their type 1 and type 2 mags for the .308 AICS platform. The type 1 mags allow for 2.850" COAL (standard). The type 2 magazines, however, allow for 2.965" COAL, but it says that Rem700's may need the feed ramp modified to accept the longer OAL.

I'm just curious what exactly needs to be modified and why. I assume I could still run 2.850" long ammo on said magazines with no issues?

    Anyone know?

The feed ramp on the Rem. 700's have to have a clip milled in the bottom center of the feed ramp for the longer OAL' bullets to clear. If the cut isn't made then the bullet tips, will get caught under the bottom of the feed ramp. It's a very simple cut, and easy to do with a 3/16 endmill. All you do if find center, and cut .100 deep. You can still use the shorter OAL in the Type 2 mags with out any problems.

I see. I wasn't aware that the AICS mags didn't quite "fit" like that (never had DBM before :) ). Thanks a lot gentlemen, I'll give Chad a call tomorrow and see if it hasn't already been done.
