Alternative .260 powder

I am moving back into a .260 after a short hiatus since I sold my Mega Maten in .260. I am assembling a Savage build on a new Varmint action with a Criterion 26" barrel and putting it in an XLR stock. With my Mega I was using the standards H4350, RL19 and a bit of RL22 in Lapua and Remington brass with BR2 primers shooting the 140's.

Since then I have come to fall in love with Alliant's Power Pro 2000MR. I'm using it exclusively in my .308, .223 and 22-250 with excellent velocity and accuracy. Has anyone tried this powder in the .260 or 6.5 CM? The burn rate falls half way between Varget and H4350 just one below RE15. One would think it may not be slow enough for the heavy bullets but 2000MR has constently been over 100fps faster than every other powder for me in the calibers I'm using it for. I get 2750 fps with absolutely no pressure signs with the 178 Amax .308 in Lapua brass out of a 22" tube. It pushes the 80g Amax to 3200 in my 26" 22-250 with no pressure signs. It meters great, has not been temp sensitive (for me 20 degrees to 90 degrees), is cheap and easy for me to get.

Alliant shows AR Comp as the preferred powder for the .260 Remington. Not my cup of tea as it's basically identical to TAC and CFE in burn rate and results. 2000MR has outperformed all of these including Varget and RE15 for me. I have always thought Alliants load data has been lacking in many ways. They only show 2 .260 loads for 2000MR - 48.2 g for a Speer 90g bullet at 3.440 and 40g for the Speer 120 soft point at 2830. This just tells me they have done minimal testing with the .260. 2000MR excels with heavy bullets for caliber loads so why no data for the 140's?

I'm going to work up a 140 Amax load once all my parts get here. Alliant has been very conservative in their load data with this powder as I have never had any pressure signs even when 1-2g over max. Because it is a ball/spherical powder you can stuff alot into a case. I'm at 48.5 in my .308 with very mild compression. Heck my 22-250 load of 34.5 leaves enough room to go to 40!I'll start with 38g and work up. Hopefully it will be as good in the .260 as everything else. Cheers!
