I received two Alpha Mag Type 1 .308 magazines for Christmas and I've been very impressed by them given their smaller size and functionality. I haven't put but a few test rounds through it to see how it feeds but I can definitely see me owning a couple more of these in the future. However I ran into a bit of a pickle when it came to finding a magazine pouch to put them in that could be attached to a vest, belt, or pack. I looked at some of the commercial pouches for AI magazines however the Alpha Mag appeared to be a little too short for a 10rd AI mag pouch and too tall for a 5 rd AI mag pouch. I'd seen where Alpha Mag Industries came out with a magazine pouch but I didn't see a price or their availability anywhere so I moved on. I was all set to buy a couple of Tactical Tailor small utility pouches since that is what I've used in the past for my AI mags until lastnight when I had somewhat of an epiphany. I was digging through some pouches that I had and came across some coyote MOLLE grenade pouches that I'd bought at a surplus store for about $10 each. Thinking that I just might be on to something I grabbed one of the mags and sure enough it would slide down in and sit far enough down for the flap to come over the base. The pouches had a bit of nylon sewn into the inside for the spoon of the grenade that had to be removed but after I cut all the stitching and pulled the tabs out it was like a match made in heaven. Consequently the pouches will also hold 5 rd AI mags pretty well too so it's like killing two birds with one stone. If you can't find any pouches made specifically for Alpha Mags then this could be a pretty good alternative.

I did check them out briefly, however I dismissed them because I determined that the Alpha mags would sit too far down into the pouch and I didn't want an open top design. I think the idea of the taco pouch is great, especially if someone has multiple semi-auto rifles and doesn't want to buy multiple pouches that will work. However, I don't think they are very compatible with the magazines that are commonly used with precision bolt action rifles.
