I have a brand new A5 for a R700 LA with surgeon bottom metal Inlet. I was hoping to use this stock for a TAC338 build in 338LM.

Pretty sure the action inlet will need adjustment and I haven’t been able to find out whether the surgeon metal will accept a CIP mag. So if it doesn’t I may need an alternative.
Anyone got any suggestions or wisdom?
Thanks in advance

If you don't want to take shortcuts, Use Surgeon's 1581 action and their XL bottom metal (not their standard LA).
The A5 stock can be inletted for that flat bottomed action, which is very stout and built for the 338LM with CIP mags.

Is using a TAC 338 (which I already have) a shortcut? I’m not starting an argument here just asking for another reason besides it’s built for it. Isn’t that what a TAC 338 is built for?
Drop some knowledge on me.
Thanks

I misunderstood when you referenced the R700 LA, and didn't realize you had the TAC 338 already on-hand.
I have no experience with that action, so I can't offer much there.

The Badger BM might be worth looking into to for that action:

Although I don't know how much the inlet would need to be adjusted and at which areas, which will play a significant role in your selection and compatibility with making that stock work.

Sorry for my poor explanation. I guess I’m most concerned about finding a replacement for the bottom metal. The idea of paying $380 is not that appealing but I do understand this is a pay to play game. I was hoping that a suitable replacement could be found that would allow CIP length mags without re-inletting the stock. Dunno at this point.

KMW has a new Long Action DBM that is CIP and SAAMI compatible coming within a few weeks. The inlet outline will be very, very close to the Surgeon and pretty easily altered where the extra radius length was added. Outline is slightly larger than Surgeon in 2 corners so cut only without having to fill and patch. Pinch points will be slightly shorter but that is easy to alter as well. This is basically the Long Action SENTINEL bottom but without the added material around the front and rear guard screws that the SENTINEL uses to make everything flush. Should be able to post a couple of images of the first ones soon.

Yeah I think I’ve heard Terry’s name once or twice... lmao. I’m honored your even addressing this sir. This is all good news and apologies that I don’t have the experience to know these components yet. I’ve always been a chassis guy.
It sounds like there are a few options that will work. I think I’m going to hang on and take a look at the KMW offering.
Thanks fellas
