Gunsmithing Aluminum Barrel Blocks

I have some older Aluminum barrel blocks and these do not grip anything. What do yall use or would you use to help make these blocks grip the barrel better?

I was thinking of spraying them with Plastidip but didn't know if that would hold up to the pressure once it is in the vice. I have used old pair of jeans, towels, and the rubber anti slick mat's to keep the barrel from rotating.

I tighten the vice extremely tight so im not sure it is that but I could be wrong.

We use this between Carbon Fiber seat post and the frame on racing bicycles. It does show microscopic scratches in the Carbon Fiber glossy top coating but shouldn't on metal.

Polish/sand the split line to close the gap at 12 and 6. Nothing you can do with 3 and 9

Plain old granulated sugar.

You could also put a shim in the split line and epoxy/glass/marine tex between the block and the barrel. Then remove the shim after it sets
