Regarding the original model, that had been clearly a case of the designers' over-enthusiasm with recently developed technology... The percussion cap ignition system was surely a revolutionary design for firearms. However, if they had stuck to using the older and time tested simple cherry-bomb fuse ignition system for the Ketchum, it might have been more effective. The Germans, 70 years later, had been smart enough to keep it simple...
