So, just over 18 months ago a guy I knew and admired died as the medical helicopter he was piloting crashed. In the same crash, 2 guys I have known for a long while were injured. Dave was badly burned, 90% and mostly full thickness, including 4th degree in places which is where all flesh is gone, its just bone. Like the article linked tells, this is uncharted territory as no one with his extent of burn injuries has survived more than a short while. The other nurse and survivor had significant injuries that seem small compared to Dave
We all know heroes. Many of you are heroes to the my family for your service to our country. Even in the world of heroes, there is the guy who stands out. Dave is that guy. I dare you fuckers to try to read this with a dry eye.

I have always struggled with organ transplantation. So many details and thoughts that havent made it a slam dunk for me. Thats over now. This made me realize that it would be foolish to spend my career saving lives and helping people and then when given another chance to, I wouldnt.

Not to take anything away from these Gents, my buddy was burnt up pretty bad in a CH46E crash and just retired a couple of year ago from crewing on the V22. One of the other members didnt make it that day. Amazing how humans keep going in the face of adversity.

It is always amazing. For people who dont get it, I do compare it to the likes of Marcus Luttrell. Only God and the never ending drive to fight for it kept Dave alive.

This amazes me as I have had 20 somethings hooked on pain meds telling me they have "end stage fibromyalgia". The differences in people's programming is amazing.
