Anyone around here test centerfire cartridge longevity in various weather conditions? Say a test with a round submerged in water, sealed vs. not sealed? How about a round in a container with 100% humidity. I've always sealed my primers and necks on my 5.56 stockpile but I was curious if there is real data out there to chart the differences. Obviously corrosion of the case is a major factor, but I'd like to have an idea about powder and primer sensitivity as well.

I know a lot of current factory ammo is sealed now as well. I thought about my own tests but have no idea how long it would take. I mean, will a sealed LC 62gr green tip fire after submerged in water for 6 months? 1 year? 10 years? I have a feeling ammo components are more tolerant than most people think.

I wondered if anybody had a crazy story about ammo found in a wet basement or some other harsh environment that still fired after a number of years.
