Quite a while back I posted a question about .45 ACP performance in short barrels. I also started a thread about newer hollow points. So to answer some of the questions I did some comparisons. I would have had more 1911 info but I only took one to the range and had a front sight failure. Based on 5 rounds strings of fire this is what I came up with:
1911
Vel fps/Eng FLb
853/371 230 Ball Win Bulk
999/365 165 Hydra Shok Per Def (3 Rounds)
Glock 30
Vel fps/Eng FLb
823/346 230 Ball Win Bulk
945/327 165 Hydra Shok Per Def
812/336 230 Gold Dot Short Barrel
834/354 230 PDX1 Winchester
843/362 230 Hydra Shok Stnd
1012/420 185 Rem+P Golden Saber
1011/420 185 Rem+P Golden Saber
The second string of Rem +P was fired for group, 3" at 25 yards and to confirm result. The others were fired and each velocity written down. Based on this I’d say there is a small velocity loss. I was disappointed in the Speer Short barrel load, since the bulk ball was faster.
