You know in my generation, going to college was a big deal, and we sent our daughter to a good (we thought) private school (Lutheran). The business school was marginal at best. Indoctrination was frequent. These days, other than STEM, I believe college is worthless. History, philosophy, sociology, etc. which used to be the basis of a liberal (small l) education are now just Maoist indoc. So why pay the money?

No amount of articles or discussion can truly relay the current environment of higher ed. I work in a state university, located in a solid red state, and the constant push for diversity hires is beyond comprehension. Diversity hires regularly receive higher salaries due to special funding. Our department pushed for a hire several years ago that gave preference to candidates who needed an H-1B visa. The university spent over $10k paying for the visa of the hire. If you are on a search committee that eliminates a diverse candidate sue to poor qualifications, be prepared to justify that to OEI since they are intimately involved in every search. We just had a very highly qualified white male promoted to the top financial position on campus, and the head of the faculty senate demanded that he be removed and replaced with a diversity hire. The Chancellor ignored the demand, but this goes to illustrate how things are.

Oh it's bad. My wife worked at a university and the names of people that go through HR was interesting to say the least. The search for outwardly gay/queer/trans/yada yada yada was eye opening. The left has taken over mainstream education and that's a fact that can't be denied.

The grant I am working on for AI in Medicine has a whole module to Ethically diverse data collection. Even the people I work with shrug their shoulders.

One of the universities I work at, the thesis project must include a section on ethics (for Data Science).

It’s next to impossible for us to get internal grant funding if the research doesn’t deal with diversity or COVID.

Look at Liberty University’s growth over the last few years.

We’re overdue for more conservative colleges and universities. These things take time. One day soon we’ll see colleges pop up that advertise themselves as conservative. Good professors that were ousted by the establishment for refusing to parrot the current narrative will find new employment and the institutions that bought into this crap will suffer irreparable damage to their centuries old reputations as their faculty base remains polluted with tenured diversity hires and mouth breathing woke types. As an employer, a degree means almost nothing to me anymore, especially from a major university. I’d rather hire a youngster that went to a community college and then online classes while working full time. Many others in my position feel the same way. It’s all written on the wall.

The mostly free market will sort this out in time.

No, we have the colleges. All we need is a new broom. There is no shortage of competent educators and topic specialists outside of the academics world; good folks who derived their trade in spite of the Bullshit "educators" who sit on their big fat tenures and thumb their noses at the Nation who gave them the chance. Those dolts are nothing but obstacles to actual education.

It's not a new problem, but it has grown outrageously out of hand,.

Take out the trash, burn it, and bring in the competent.

And BTW, I think the OP is dead-on.

People need to learn what is being said and use that ideology. Hence if I'm told as a "man" I'm a horrible person, I'll just say I'm a bi-racial non-binary lesbian. Pretty much just shuts down any thing the "other party" is arguing or saying about me.
Just wait till I start harassing the VA ...........LMAO
